30 players played on through the constant rainfall at Bramhall Lane yesterday to complete the League's One Day Tournament Programme for 2011.
In the Girls events, Maria Kuzova and Sophie Quinn (Macclesfield) won the U15s with West Heaton's Alison Geddes and Helen Taylor runners up.
Shazeen Hussain (Albert) and Hannah Sewell (Prestbury) topped the U12s.
Jack Sykes and Bradley Ellis (Poynton) headed the U12 Boys with Greg Johnson and Kasim Challah (Alderley Edge) in runners up spot.
Prestbury's James Taylor and Adam Phillips won the Boys U15 event ahead of Brooklands' Callum Perry and Matthew Earnshaw.
Well done to all the players who carried on in very wet conditions and thanks to the Bramhall Lane club for their hospitality!

2011 Youatt Cup Results

9 clubs entered teams in this year's Youatt Cup - our annual U13 team event. After a busy Saturday afternoon, four teams had made it through to Sunday's semi finals - Northern v Brabyns and Prestbury v Bowdon. Through to the final went Northern and Prestbury and after a hard fought final, home team Prestbury emerged victorious to claim the trophy and the first prize of £250!
Brabyns went on to win the 3rd/4th play off match.

Bramhall Queensgate One Day tournament

An entry of 30 rolled up to Bramhall Queensgate on Saturday 7 August for the latest One Day doubles event. A combined U15/U18 Boys event was won by Joppe Meulensteen and Faris McGrath (David Lloyd/Ryecroft Park) who overcame the home club's James Clayman and Alex Leah in the final. Two pairs of U15 Girls battled hard against the boys and then played a girls final with Ava Johnston and Emily Spencer (Alderley Edge) taking the trophy over Prestbury's Holly Burton and Lucie Denton. The U12s event saw a dramatic final ending in success for the Bramhall Lane pairing of Francesca Bailey and Hannah McColgan edging out Prestbury's Lewis Denton and Rory Burton in a tie break! Well done girls!
Thanks to all at the Queensgate club (especially Judith) for their hospitality and excellent catering!

Bramhall Lane One Day Tournament

60 competitors enjoyed a day of singles competition at Bramhall Lane on Saturday 24 July. In the U10s, the home club's Archie Wild and Bowdon's William Webb came through to a final from two groups of four and semis, with Archie coming out on top!
The U12s saw four round robin groups whittled down to a final between Yannick Ali-Simoen (Bramhall Lane) and Hale's Oscar Armitage with Yannick taking top prize. The U12 girls group was headed by Hannah McColgan with Francesca Bailey in runner-up (both Bramhall Lane). The U15 Boys saw a large field of 24 players and after 6 round robin groups, quarters and semis Kieran Cronin (Bramhall Lane) edged out Bramhall Queensgate's James Clayman in a good final. Another Bramhall Lane duo, Erica Sanders and Jess Armstrong finished first and second in the U15 Girls event. The U18 Boys event was topped by New Mills's Alex Graver. Runner up was Alex Leah (Bramhall Queensgate), their decider just going to Alex Graver on a tie break!

An excellent day of good spirited competition - thanks to all at the Bramhall Lane club for their hospitality!

A Message from the Match Secretary

It seems sad that we have to remind member clubs that it is only courteous to contact opponents in reasonable time if, for whatever reason, you are unable to fulfil a fixture. This season has seen too many occasions when teams have failed to turn up at all - leaving junior players without a match and the aggravation and disappointment that that causes. This does only harm to the future of junior tennis and is the fastest way to lose the parental support which is essential to the progress of young players at our clubs. As a League Committee we inevitably find it difficult to propose sanctions as we want to avoid anything which could ultimately reduce playing opportunities for juniors - our only hope is that all member clubs take on board the importance of organisation, communication and, if nothing else, courtesy, in order to make sure our junior players benefit from the opportunities that we are trying to facilitate.

Sale One Day Tournament

24 players enjoyed a good morning's tennis at Sale LTC on Sunday 11 July.
In the U12 event, Francesca Bailey and Jessica Webster (Bramhall Lane & Northern)headed the group stage with three wins over the boys. Max Hanson and Milo Kelly (Bramhall Lane) just edged the final deciding set on a tie break - two pairs of winners on the day!
Prestbury's Holly Burton & Lucy Denton put up a strong showing finishing third in the U15 Boys event - well done girls! The top prize went to Bramhall Lane's Kieran Cronin and Yannick Al-Simoen, with the David Lloyd pairing of Jake Henderson and Joppe Meulensteen in runners up spot.
Bramhall Lane's Kim Lawrence and Amanda Bennison bravely joined two boys teams in the U18s section but were unable to prevent Marcus McNulty and Simon Pattinson (Mellor/MCTC)running out winners with Ryecroft's Faris McGrath and Niku Ghaemi the runners up.

Knutsford One Day Tournament

Another beautiful day for the Knutsford One Day Tournament - 42 players enjoyed some great tennis in the sunshine! In the U12 section 10 pairs were split into two round robin groups with the top 3 in each group progressing to the knock out stages. The form held up in the semis - the two group winners reaching the final - with the home club pairing of James Clewlow and Alex Pierce edging past Bramhall Lane's Max Hanson & Sam Carpenter to take the top prize.
The U15 boys and girls split into two groups with the girls topping each group. The Northern's Faye Worrall & Eilidh Gawley fell at the semi final stage but Alderley Edge's Emily Spencer & Ava Johnson reached the final and had chances in a tight match but the Bramhall Queensgate team of Sam Hanson & Jonny Hall won the day.
The U18s were joined by three U15 teams, producing some excellent tennis for the crowd to enjoy. Rob & Martin Benson-May (Didsbury) came out on top, retaining their title, with Knutsford's Jack Farell & Ed Crowther in runners up. The U15s were headed by Bramhall Lane's Kieran Cronin & Yannick Ali-Simeon with Ryecroft's Faris McGrath & Joppe Meulensteen in runners up.

West Heaton One Day Tournament

The best of the weather arrived at West Heaton last Saturday producing ideal conditions for the One Day Mixed doubles tournament! Leading the way in the U15 competition were Francesca Bailey and Sam Perry (Bramhall Lane/Alderley Edge) who took the Mike Hattan Trophy, dropping only 4 games along the way! Holly Hunt and Henry Wilson (Heaton Mersey) were runners up with Holly Whitehead and George Staddon (also Heaton Mersey) in 3rd place.
In the U12s, an all Heaton Mersey event saw Emily Herd and Alex Fynn taking top honours from Lauren Hunt and George Chatterton in runners up, with Anna Staddon and George Wilson in third.
An enjoyable afternoon for players and spectators alike - thanks, as ever, to the welcoming team at West Heaton!

The sun really shone on Alderley Edge yesterday when hats and suncream were the order of the day!

In the U15s section the round robin matches produced a final between Bramhall Queensgate's Tom Calver & James Clayman who edged out Greave's Sam Dobbins and Cain Harrold.

The U12s saw an all-Bramhall Lane affair with the boys (Sam Carpenter & Max Hansen) just prevailing over the brave girls (Francesca Bailey & Georgina Dare).

Well done to all the players - it really was hot out there!
